RESOLVED : Setting Modem CDMA Prolink P2000 on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04

Finally after all this time looking for a way out, now I succeeded setting up Modem Prolink P2000 that I bought on my Ubuntu.
From all the forums I've browse,starting from replace the SCSI Emulation module with modprobe usbserial , usbmodeswitch etc., but no one was willing.
Because I kept trying, I found a simple but effective way, and finally I can use a cheap internet connection in my Ubuntu with Telkom Flexi ISP,,
Hahaha ... : D


if you have a same problem just follow the instructions, guaranteed to be going well. Remember be exactly alike there should be no steps are missed, OK.

Please note that I use the specification as follows:

- A Dell Inspiron 1420 Laptop, Core 2 Duo, 2Gb
- OS multiboot Win XP, Win 7, Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (Use Wubi)
- Modem USB CDMA 1X Prolink P2000, Telkom Flexi SIM Card


1. First we need Windows for setting up and replace the Mount Point First, Second, and Third .. If you directly insert your Modem in Ubuntu, without setting the Mount Point from Windows, Ubuntu will detect your modem as USB Storage !
2. Log into your Windows (I use the Windows 7 UE)
3. First setting the modem, install the built-in application's to complete
4. Then open the built-in application (JUST OPEN THE APPLICATION, DO NOT CLICKING THE OTHER)
5. Then, after the application are opened wait about 10 Seconds and directly Close the applications

















6. After the application closed, eject the modem from Safely Remove Hardware, (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STAGE)

7. Eject sequence must NOT arbitrarily, because there is order














Eject sequence are:
- First "QCOMM 6000 USB Modem"
- Seccond "QCOMM Diagnostics Interface 6000"
- Third "QCOMM NMEA Device"
8. (If you using  multiboot)

    - After you finished the steps above, directly restart your Computer

    - Leave the modem connected on USB hub (Do not remove the modem)

    - Then go straight into Ubuntu (DO NOT SIGN INTO WINDOWS AGAIN)

    -Your Modem should be detected automatically

9. (For those who wear singleboot)

    - You can do the step above via Virtualbox OSE

    - or using USB_Modeswitch

    -Your Modem should be detected automatically


10. If you've followed the above steps correctly, I guarantee Prolink P2000 will work in Ubuntu, because essentially we are just sort Modem mount points are,,, because usually if you not done these steps Ubuntu will recognize the Modem as a USB storage device.

Here's a few that I take Screen Shot
























Ubuntu actually recognized the Modem Prolink P2000 as CDMA Modem
"Bus 005 Device 002 ID 05c6: 6000 Qualcomm, Inc.."
But if you did not do the above step, then Ubuntu will recognize the modem as a USB Storage
"Bus 005 Device 002 ID 05c6: 1000 Qualcomm, Inc.."




Prolink modem will also be detected automatically in the Network Manager

    Mas,saya sudah mengikuti semua petunjuk yang diberikan,tetapi kok ga bisa konek ya? Mesti selalu gagal koneksinya. Kira-kira kenapa ya?

    kalo modem uda kedetek namun gak mau konek kemungkinan username/passwordnya salah mas..

    OS pake Ubuntu 10.4. Modem Prolink p2000,operator Flexi. Saya sudah mengikuti semua petunjuknya. Memang bisa dan modemnya berhasil terdeteksi. Masalahnya kalau tiba2 dc (disconnect) dan saya ingin reconect,itu sering gagal. Terus,bagaimana caranya menggunakan usb_modeswitch? Saya masih bingung dengan cara pemakaiannya.

    sepertinya ribet kalo pake ubuntu. boleh ikut berpusing ria nih (hendak mencoba ubuntu), soalnya aku pake mandriva no problem. langsung detect dan konek.. bahkan auto konek ketika DC.

    bos gue jalanin prolink modem di win xp sp3 kok gk bisa di eject ya? kira2 solusinya gimana? krn mslh ini gue hrs selalu restart stiap mau connect ulang modemnya.

    @Mas Agasi,
    jangan pake Network Manager koneknya mas (Icon Signal pojok kanan atas) tp pake GNOME-PPP (apt-get install gnome-ppp) itu ada fitur auto reconnect ketika saluran gagal, saya jamin bisa konek lg tanpa harus restart.

    Close dulu applikasi modemnya bos, (dari system tray pojok kanan bawah) dan eject Zero-CDnya jika masih keliatan dr my computer, close semua aplikasi yg mungkin masih menggunakan modemnya bos.
    intinya, modem bs dieject jika tak ada aplikasi / program yg mengaksesnya lg.

    Untuk aplikasi setara IDM (terintegrasi dengan browser) setau saya blum ada om, tp rekomendasi saya om bisa pakai "Multiget Downloader"
    apt-get install multiget

    Terima kasih, Mas Adit. Saya mengalami kegagalan untuk Ubuntu 10.10. Benar-benar tidak terdeteksi oleh Ubuntu. Hanya lsusb yang memberi hasil Qualcomm. Saya coba modprobe usbserial, gagal. Tetap tidak terdeteksi di ikon notifikasi panel atas itu. Sapeyan uenak sekali! Jadi iri saya. :-D

    Tolong bikinkan tutorial untuk yang Ubuntu 10.10 ya, Mas? Terima kasih banyak. Bagaimanapun, blog ini keren. Saya sudah lihat kedua versi posting Anda. Wah, wah. Maju terus!

    ada ga mas, cara agar kita g usah masuk windows dulu, jadi bgtu msuk ubuntu, modem langsung detect?
    kalau software spt IDM, biasanya ane pake AXCEL, kalau g gitu ARIA.

    iya mas bro, semua berjalan mulus..akan tetapi ketika kita pingn konek lagi mesti harus ke windows dlu, kalau gak gitu modem tidak bisa ddeteksi sama ubuntu..gmana ya cara mengatasinya??

    untuk saat ini belum mas, blum ketemu caranya ngemount Modem tipe ini di mesin Ubuntu tanpa kita masuk dulu ke Windows. harap bersabar untuk solusinya, saya juga masih terus mencoba mencari cara biar semuanya berjalan praktis dan independent tidak bergantung pada Windows lg ^ ^ .

    Terima kasih, Mas. Namun sungguh, saya tidak punya Windows. Saya pun tidak punya modem lain. Jadinya P2000 terbengkalai hingga saat ini. Namun saya sudah punya gantinya yang lebih baik.
